Stroke: A blockage of an artery in the brain or to the brain can lead to a stroke. If there is significant narrowing of the artery, then a ballon dilatation of the vessels, a stent, or surgical removal of the plaque is performed to open the artery. There are now devices to remove or breakup newly formed blood clots. A brain bypass is performed when the narrowing can't be repaired with other measures.
