TIA is: TIA (transitory ischemic attack) is the result of temporary cut off of blood flow to brain. It can lead to stroke as well. Grand and petit mals usually describe type of seizures. Seziures happened due to abnormal electrical activity of brain cells and not because of abnormal blood flow.

Definitions TIA & sz: TIA is caused by a transient decrease in blood flow to part of the brain. Sometimes it is a misdiagnosis- no test proves whether it is or is not the right diagnosis. Grand, petit mal and tonic refer to types of seizures. These are due to excessive electrical activity in part or all of the surface of the brain. Blood flow is not impaired in these cases.
