No data: Folic acid is frequently recommended because in some studies women taking it had a lower chance of having a baby with spinal problems. A higher dose, such as 4 mg is used if there is a factor that hinders Folic Acid acid metabolism. An example would be certain seizure medications. Metafolin is the natural form of Folic Acid but there are no studies to see if it prevents spinal problems.
