Known risk: Unfortunately deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism and death, although rare, are known complications of estrogen containing contraception. The risk is lower than the risks of these occurring with pregnancy but it is a known risk. Death form a car accident is more likely than death from complications of contraception.
