Serax...: ...is the old brand name for oxazepam, a mid-potency benzodiazepine. It is used for anxiety and sleep. Alcohol is an central nervous system depressant just like benzodiazepines. Taking the two together can cause greatly magnified effects leading to respiratory depression and death.
