Hormone-Receptor: Hi. All hormones work by binding very specifically with high affinity to their cognate receptor. This is often describe as lock & key; only one specific key will open a lock. The receptor has a binding pocket for the hormone, and the hormone's structure is what makes it have binding specificity for its receptor. Hormone binding to its receptor sends a signal to cell to regulate some function.
