Anbesol: Most 'cold sores' are caused by herpes simplex-1. (HSV-1)(not to be confused with the genital HSV-2.) Anbesol is a mixture of 3 things, Lidocaine and 2 antiseptics. The antiseptics might inhibit HSV-1 a bit, but its more to keep the lesion from getting over infected with a bacteria. So the answer is a mild yes, but don't count on it.
