Oral herpes, cankers: Are you sure cold sores (oral herpes)? Herpes usually is outside of lips, usually near the same spot each time. Painful sores in the mouth are canker sores, not herpes. There usually are no obvious triggers, but either herpes or cankers can follow other infections, like colds, flu, etc (hence the names "cold sore" and "fever blister" for herpes). Effective treatments available; ask pediatrician.
