Yes: When this happens it is called 'retinopathy of prematurity'. There is a constant weighing of options for prematures between enough oxygen to sustain life and too much which can cause retinopathy. The oxygen causes abnormal vessels to grow in the back of the eye with retinal distortion and various degrees of loss of vision.
