It is a safe drug: Although Meloxicam (Mobic) is being marketed as a COX-2 inhibitor, it is classified in the Physician's Desk Reference (PDR) as a nonselective nonsteroidal analgesic because it has higher COX-1 inhibitory effects than the other COX-2 inhibitors. Nevertheless, Meloxicam is more potent against COX-2 and is more favorable to the GI system than other nonselective NSAIDs. Ask your PCP for more info.
