A member asked:

My 10 week old is on ranitidine(2ml x 1 daily).if i split the dose to 1 mlx2 daily, will it be as effective for his reflux?what's the max dose for him?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Usually twice daily: Ranitidine is usually given twice daily for reflux in infants. The dosing is determined based on weight, and usually given 5-10 mg/kg/day divided into 2 daily doses. For a typical 5 kg infant, 1 mL twice daily would represent an appropriate dose of 6 mg/kg/day, while 1.5 mL twice daily would be 9 mg/kg/day, which is close to the maximum. Of course, everything depends on the baby's exact weight.
