For migraine...: ...there are theories that the trigeminal nerve is involved. Maxalt (rizatriptan) works to decrease and stop abnormal firing and release of certain chemicals that cause the migraine pain. For the more typical trigeminal disease, trigeminal neuralgia, Maxalt (rizatriptan) does not have any effect because the mechanism of pain is different. Good question!
