No: Rizatriptan (Maxalt (rizatriptan)) has not been shown to be safe in pregnancy and is likely to pose a risk to the fetus but has not been well-studied. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is considered safe in pregnancy, and along with rest in a dark, quiet room is the best way to treat a migraine in pregnancy. In unusual, severe circumstances Maxalt (rizatriptan) could be prescribed by a rather bold physician, but I wouldn't.

ABSOLUTELY NOT: Potential of major miscarriage is very real. Totally contraindicated to use triptans while pregnant.

Pregnancy registry: The manufacturer of Maxalt (rizatriptan) provides a registry for pregnant patients who must use it. It is not a medication typically used as some studies show the potential for harm. In certain individual cases the benefits may outweigh the risks. Participation in the registry allows further scientific study to give us a better understanding of pregnancy outcomes with this medication.
