Unlikely if in place: Which IUD do u have? The ParaGard IUD is approved for up to 10 years; however recent studies have shown that it is effective for at least 12 years. The Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD is approved for up to 5 years, though it may be effective for at least 7 years. Sounds like u have Mirena (levonorgestrel), since had no periods until recently. Pregnancy risk low if still in proper place. If Mirena (levonorgestrel), u should have it replaced.
