A member asked:

I got a sunburn on my forehead. it was swollen, but now the swelling has moved down around my eyes, what can i do about the swelling?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cool compresses/ice: Swelling is caused by increased free fluid in the injured tissue. In this case, the very sensitive tissue under the skin in the forehead has been injured and is now swollen. Swelling typically shifts downward because of gravity. Things that will help prevent or improve this are cool compresses to the swollen areas, and laying down so that the excessive fluid drains back to the heart.
