Tight muscles: Bone spurs are caused due to stress on the bone. Typically in the foot and ankle this can be due to arthritis, tight Achilles tendon and calf muscle and plantar fascia. When these muscles and tendons are tight, they pull on the heal bone causing stress, and the result is to make more bone which is the form of a bone spur. Treatment, stretching of the Achilles tendon and plantar fascia.

Bone spurs: Bone spurs to the feet and ankles are most often caused from trauma or arthritis (wear and tear to the joints) or in the case of the calcaneous (heel bone) can be from Enthesopathy (pulling of soft tissue from bone). This can be cause from the tendon or ligament from being too tight and resulting in a chronic pulling off situation. See your podiatrist and he/she can help.
