A "Tumor marker": Ca 19-9 is elevated in ovarian, pancreatic and biliary cancers. But the levels are elevated in non-malignant disease as well, so it is not a good test for detecting cancers. It may be used to monitor the response of a tumor to treatment, if it was elevated prior to treatment.
