Ask ordering dr.: Cervical spine instability is usually assed by flexion and extension lateral projections using plain radiography or CT. Usually performed when people have cervical spine pain possibly related to trauma. Borderline instability probably means there was equivocal movement of C3 on C4. Finding has to be correlated by your physician with your symptoms and physical exam.
