Eustachian tube: A poorly functioning eustachian tube can cause the ear to feel plugged. Some providers believe that a nasal steroid spray may improve eustachian tube function by reducing swelling in the nasal cavity. This has not been proven in studies but can be tried especially if you have significant allergy symptoms.
