Symptoms: Opiate containing pain medications such as morphine, percocet, demerol, (meperidine hydrochloride) can cause mast cell degranulation independent of allergy, but leading to allergy symptoms like itch. Medications can cause 2 types of allergy: immediate symptoms upon exposure (such as hives, itch, swelling and systemic allergic symptoms) or delayed symptoms (usually itchy rashes).
