Counseling may help: Losing a relationship with anyone, whether an alcohol/drug abuser or not, is always difficult. It is a loss, and it is a lot of stress. We go through the same kind of stages of grief that happens when someone close to us dies. It is more complicated with abusers. Attending Alanon to get over your guilt, anger, shame or other emotions may help, as may a therapist if you are having problems.
