The bottom line is: That you can't prevent him from grieving. As much as you care, he wil need to work through this loss. Nine years is a long time- so i wouldn't expect him to bounce back quickly. When they say 'breaking up is hard to do' - it really is the truth. I know this is difficult.

Major changes like this are typically painful and there is a mourning period as you adjust to life in a new key.
