is it safe to take 3 acetaminophen and codeine?

Yes: Don't take more than your doctor recommends to avoid unpleasant side effects. You don't mention what the strength of the tylenol (acetaminophen) is or how often you're taking "3". Be careful not to exceed 4, 000 mg of tylenol (acetaminophen) in any 24 hour period. Your liver will thank you for your attentiveness!
