Statistics: The conditions upon our earth are certainly special and needed to produce life. The universe is fabulously huge containing millions of galaxies each composed of billions of stars. We have already discovered planets around many nearby stars in our own galaxy. So statistically it seems a certainty that life is widespread and some of those with life will have evolved to intelligence.
