Local or general?: Local anesthesia used to numb the area may last for several hours. Sedation medications, pain meds, and/or general anesthesia wear off within a couple of hours; longer in elderly patients or liver/kidney problems. Still, no one should drive or make any important decisions within 24 hours of having sedation or anesthesia. Your judgment may be impaired long after you feel awake.
