A member asked:

How do you know when funky sinuses, post nasal drip, lots of coughing is a result of bacterial infection and would respond to antibiotics?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Bacterial infection: Bacterial infections are characterized by yellow or colored drainage (pus). You will often run a fever and or have a nasty smell in your nose. Your nose will be congested and you will be blowing out purulent secretions or swallowing them. You will need 2 weeks of antibiotics at the minimum. I usually use them for three weeks just because I am an ENT and I want the infection to be totally over.
