Dental infection: You need to see a dentist ASAP - It will not heal itself and will cause more damage if untreated. You might find pain relief - but that does not mean you don't need to see a dentist. You do! Best wishes.

Nerve in tooth: When the nerve of the tooth is effected enough, it causes throbbing pain. You most likely need Root Canal Therapy in the tooth. See your dentist as soon as possible for a definitive diagnosis and treatment. When was your last dental check-up? Perhaps it's time for one of those as well.

Diff. possibilities: Pain on one side of the face could be due to a number of reasons. Pain from one tooth on that side can radiate to the entire side. Could also be coming from the TMJ. You should go to a dentist, he/she will be able to localize the source of pain.

Probably: Probably from an infected tooth or teeth. But can also be from gum disease, fractured tooth/teeth, sinus infection, jaw joint dysfunction, traumatic malocclusion, and many other possibilities. Sorry, can't nail this down without thorough examination and probably x-rays. Please call your Dentist for an emergency visit.
