I have been prescribed amoxicillin 500mg by my dentist for an infection caused by a cracked tooth. i am breastfeeding, can this hurt my baby?

No: The penicillin class of drugs including Ampicillin are considered safe in pregnancy and while breast feeding. Occasionally side effects may be seen like loose stools in the baby but are infrequent and transient. Good luck.

Cracked tooth: Amoxicillin is deemed safe while you are breast feeding (congratulations, by the way). The infection, on the other hand, may be harmful. Antibiotic will reduce severity & spread of infection, but will not cure it. Your Dentist may discuss root canal/crown or extraction/implant/crown with you. Please follow his/her advice to the letter.
