A member asked:

Is there any connection between cerebral palsy and chicken pox?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Short answer-no: CP is a disorder of movement and posture related to an injury to the motor areas of the brain. That injury may occur anytime from fetal life to age 3.The cause could be oxygen loss, infection, traumatic brain bleed, etc.Chickenpox is a virus that rarely causes a mild encephalitis, producing some temporary lack of balance but it does not target the motor nerves or produce CP.
