Yes but only if . . : Hydrochlorothiazide is a relatively weak diuretic (water pill) which can also lower potassium level, which can be dangerous if too low. However, as weak as HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide) is and given the relatively lower dose that we prescribe these days, it's unlikely for most patients to need extra potassium at 6.25mg/d, 12.5mg or even 25mg/d. However, at 50mg/d, many need potassium. Best to see prescribing doc & check K
