Yes, but not likely: Lattice degeneration is a thinning of the retina that can lead to a retinal tear or retinal detachment. Both are very serious conditions. It is strongly advised that you see a retina specialist. Lattice can be treated in the office and dramatically reduce your risk of a serious problem.

Not likely: Lattice is a deposit of pigmented "tissue glue" which holds a thinning area of the peripheral retina in place. It is also an area of stress if the retina is disturbed from something like a blow to the head or eye. If this happens, and it is not common, there can be a tear of the retina termed retinal detachment. This can be repaired and if detected quickly, the blindness wont happen.
