No and It can: Age related macular degeneration is the most common cause of blindness in elderly people. It is not curable but it is treatable.

See below: Age-related macular degeneration (amd) is a retinal condition which affects older adults and results in a loss of vision in the center of the visual field (the macula). There are “dry” and “wet” forms. It is a top cause of blindness and visual impairment in older adults (>50 years) in industrialized countries. It is not curable, but can be treated by a retina specialist.
