A member asked:

Could someone get addicted to migraine pills?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends on pills: There are medicines to PREVENT migraine (beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, topirimate) that do not cause addiction but may need to be tapered if they are to be stopped. Drugs like Fioricet and its generic equivalents contain butalbital, a barbiturate which causes physical dependency and addiction. Drugs like Zomig (zolmitriptan) to treat migraine do not cause any dependency.
