Do you think women get "perthes disease", the painful disease that gets in the hip joint or joints?

Dr. Gerald Mandell answered

Specializes in Nuclear Medicine

Disease of children: Perthes disease in acute phase affects children usually 3-12 years with peak at 5-7 yrs. More common in boys. Decreased blood supply to femoral head causes fracture and deformity. Phases of fragmentation and fattening of femoral head when recovered can leave deformity. Adults who had problem as child can have arthritis from residual deformity.Sometimes hip replacements are necessary.
