A member asked:

Could thalassemia minor develop into major thalessemia? if so, how?

No: Thalassemia is an inherited condition, the severity depends on the type of mutation you inherit and is fixed throughout life. If you develop another blood disorder by chance during life your anemia could worsen, but this has nothing to do with your thalassemia.

No: Thalassemia minor and major are genetic alterations, present from development, as a fetus. Minor can not progress to major. Please speak with your physician to determine if you have Thal minor. Thal major requires lifelong transfusions. Hope you are okay.
