Sub vs other opiates: Suboxone (Burenorphine) acts on the same brain receptors as do other opiates e.g. Oxy. Unlike other opiates which are full agonists at the mu-opioid receptor, BUP is a partial agonist at this receptor and an antagonist at the kappa receptor. This in turn minimizes the high thereby decreasing the need for dose escalation i.e. less tolerance. You'll only be opioid independent once off Suboxone.
