Unlikely: Doing a pap smear is real easy...all one needs to do is touch and scrape a few cells from the surface of the cervix. I doubt that a nurse can make a mistake. Yet there is a small chance that one of these tests could be be affected by inadequate sampling, not both of them!

Yes and no: There are some safeguards in the procedure. A pap smear should never be reported out unless the smear is first an adequate specimen ( has the right kind of cervical cells on the slide) as judged by the person reviewing the slide.If adequate, and no abnormal cells are seen, it would be reported as negative.Can errors be made ?, yes.
