A member asked:

Is it normal to have diarrhea with taking metformin?

Yes: Because of the way Metformin works, it is very usual to have diarrhea in the first few weeks of starting it. Usually, diarrhea should improve within 6 weeks of starting. If it persists beyond that, or if it is not tolerable for you, talk to your doctor about lowering the dose or considering other options to treat your condition.

Common side effect: 1 in three patients taking metformin get this. Personally, I've never seen a patient get over this, but a certain percent do not mind it.
