There are many: reasons your ALT can increase, alcohol, infection, statins, Lovaza, you would need other liver tests and a history to figure it out

Maybe "hepatitis": Hepatitis is defined as inflammation of liver cells, as is indicated by elevation in serum transaminases (ast and/or alt). Hepatitis can be caused by a variety of issues (infectious, ischemic, metabolic, toxic, infiltrative, alcohol-related, drugs, etc.). Alt is not however specific to just the liver--so, what tests have been done; what has been ruled out? Recently had mononucleosis?
