A member asked:

When should i be concerned about throat cancer? i've had a sore throat for 5 week, it feels tight. my dr apt was set out 3 week. i am very anxious.

Risk factors: A persistent sore throat warrants concern, and I can appreciate your anxiety. An examination is needed to allay your fears. Knowing some risk factors and alarm symptoms may help: smoking , drinking alcohol( the two together increase risk further than either alone), difficulty swallowing, spitting up blood. If you have any of these risk factors or alarm symptoms, call for an earlier appt.
