Most likely : Infection. I would call your doctor and get started on antibiotics. Keep it as clean as you can. And keep nail on until you see your doctor.

Toe pus: Your description suggests you have an infection and this could be from an ingrown toenail or some other underlying condition. Whatever the cause it is clear you need physician evaluation and treatment.
