Diabetes 1 vs 2: Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune condition that destroys the islet cells that produce insulin. GAD 65 antibodies tend to be positive in type 1. Diabetes Type 2 is an Insulin resistance problem, typically occurring in patients who are obese and who have a genetic predisposition to diabetes, although it can happen even without the predisposition if the lifestyle is bad enough.
