Green macaque : It is theorized that HIV has its origin in SIV, simian immunodeficiency virus, a virus that behaves much the same in the green macaque monkey from Central Africa. There is evidence dating back to the 1950s, possibly even earlier, that the virus mutated and passed to humans by consumption of the simian meat.
