Methylphenidate mood: Methylphenidate is a medication that acts in the brain. When you think about it, the brain controls everything - from thoughts, to movements, to moods etc. Adjusting the dose of your medicine is key to balancing benefit vs. side-effects. If your side-effects are overwhelming, I think it's 'back to the drawing board' to try new strategies to help you. There are 'mood stabilizer' meds out there.

Change dosing: It is common to have mood changes when the blood level of stimulants drops. This is referred to as "rebound". It can be made better by using the medication closer together (move short-acting stimulant up by 30-60 minutes (if took it at 3pm take it at 2:30 or 2:00pm). For the long acting medicines you may need to add a short acting medication at the time the other begins to wear off.
