Need to function: Small tumors that are not functional are asymptomatic and hard to define. When functional such as a small cell neuroendocrine tumor of lung, a functional adrenal tumor, an islet cell tumor of pancreas, then one begins to search for the source. PET CAT scans are very helpful.
