If new pain: it's likely a throat infection.Could be viral (most common) or strep.Inflammation of the side of throat causes swelling around the eustachian tube (attached to the inner ear).Swallowing causes pain which appears to emanate in the ear, itself.Ibuprofen/Aleve may help.If associated w/high fever/nausea consider strep.May need antibiotics so see dr.If pain is chronic,may be something like TMJ syndrome
