Borderline: A1c of 6.0% is on the fence - could be diabetes or prediabetes or nothing. If you are very overweight you are at increased risk of diabetes and your doctor should order a fasting blood glucose if not already done and perhaps a 2 hour glucose tolerance test which is the most reliable test for diabetes

Prediabetes: Judging by your hgba1 c you have prediabetes. Now it's the time to be more careful about your diet, exercise more so you don't develop DM. Talk to your MD about it, he may consider starting you already on metformin.
