Weight loss is key: It sounds like you have type 2 diabetes. A hemoglobin a1c of 11.1 is very high and indicates an average sugar of around 300 (normal is 70-100 before meals). Avoiding concentrated sweets, excess starches, doing exercise and promoting weight loss is a key component of treatment. Most people with levels this high also need medication. You need to see your doctor about this.

Hb of 11.1: A hb a1c means you have a mean glucose of 272. That means it is much higher after meals. I am all for weight loss and exercise. I am also of the opinion that you need to see a endocrinologist and start some medication to get your hb a1c < 7. That should be your first priority. You probably cannot get rid of your diabetes.
