Metformin: Metformin, 500 mg 3 times/day (OK on empty stomach--will not cause low blood sugar). Metformin restores insulin receptor sensitivity, and reduces carb cravings. Acarbose (100 mg with meals) or White Kidney Bean Extract (from a health food store)--both are starch blockers. They delay post-meal blood sugar spikes (and lows), and help when you "fall off the wagon." Avoid carbs!!

Quit sugar: I know this sounds simplistic, but if you stop eating everything with added sugar it will likely help you to stop snacking which will help you to lose weight. For most people the more sugar you eat the more you want. If you cut it out the first week will be very hard, but after that it gets much easier. Once you have cut out sugar you can work on the next dietary hurdle.
