What are laryngectomies?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Voice box removal: The voice box is classically removed for cancer of the voicebox and its related structures (larynx, supraglottis). This results in a permanent "breathing hole" in the neck. While the voice is gone, there are ways for the patient to still produce speech (esophageal / burping speech, electric voice devices).
